1. In short
Arise & Shine is built so that your personal spiritual life stays on your phone.
Your prayers, journal entries, fasts, alarms, reading-plan progress, and devotional history are saved on your device only. We can't look at them. We can't recover them. If you delete the app, that data is gone.
You never create an account with us. We never learn your name, your email, or who you are.
The complete Bible is stored on your phone. When you read or search a passage, nothing is sent anywhere — nobody knows which passages you look at.
Two things send information off your device: voice dictation and subscriptions. Both are explained below.
2. Who we are
Arise & Shine is operated by Sophia Faustin, a sole proprietor based in Québec, Canada.
For any question about the protection of personal information, or to exercise the rights described below:

3. What stays on your device
The following never leave your phone:
- The prayers you write, including photos, recordings, and attachments
- Journal entries
- Fasts — when, how long, and your history
- Alarms — times, labels, days, and settings
- Reading-plan progress
- Devotional history — what you've listened to
- 75 Holy challenge progress
- Saved and bookmarked content
- Your settings, including distance units and language
Because this information is saved on your device only, we have no access to it and cannot restore it if you lose your device or delete the app.
One exception to know about. If you use voice dictation to write a prayer or a journal entry, the audio is handled by your phone's built-in speech recognition, which on many devices means it is sent to Apple or Google for transcription. See “Voice input” below.
4. What we collect
We collect a small amount of anonymous information in order to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
- Devotional plays. When you finish a devotional, we record which one, how long it played, and when. That record is not linked to you — no identifier is attached to it.
- Searches. When you run a search, we record the terms, the section, the language, and the number of results. This helps us spot content people look for but can't find.
- Listening time. We record, in aggregate, how many seconds of On the Road audio have been played.
- Likes. If you like a piece of content, that like is stored on our server and associated with your anonymous identifier (below). It is the only thing we keep that is tied to an individual installation.
- Shared prayers. If — and only if — you tap Share on a prayer, its contents are sent to our server so the recipient can open it. The name you have set in the app is sent with it, so the recipient can see who it came from; if you haven't set one, it is shared as “A friend”. Your anonymous identifier is attached as well. Prayers you don't share are never transmitted.
- Technical information. Our servers receive your device's IP address when the app requests content. This is part of how the internet normally works. We don't use it to build a profile of you.
5. Subscriptions and payments
Arise & Shine offers a paid subscription.
We never see or handle your payment information. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple or Google. Your card details, billing address, and Apple or Google account are theirs, under their own policies, and are never shared with us.
To know whether a subscription is active, we use RevenueCat, a subscription management service. RevenueCat receives your purchase history, an anonymous identifier it creates, your device type, operating system version, country, and IP address. It does not receive your name or email, and we don't link it to anything else in the app.
Your subscription is tied to your Apple or Google account, not to an account with us. If you reinstall or change devices, “Restore purchases” brings it back.

6. Voice input
Some parts of the app let you speak instead of type.
When you use voice dictation, the app calls on your phone's built-in speech recognition. Depending on your device and settings, your voice may be sent to Apple or Google to be converted into text. That falls under their policies, not ours. We never receive the audio, and the resulting text is saved on your device only.
If you'd rather nothing left your phone, type instead of dictating, or turn on on-device dictation in your phone's settings where that's available.
7. Reading Scripture
Every Bible translation offered in the app is stored on your device. When you read a passage, search for a verse, or follow a reading plan, the lookup happens entirely on your phone. No record of your reading is sent to us, or to anyone.
Some translations download once, at the moment you select them, and then stay stored on your device. Each one, with its source and licence, is listed on our Bible translations page.
8. Your anonymous identifier
The first time you open Arise & Shine, the app creates an anonymous identifier so that certain features, such as likes, can work. It is a random string, attached to no name, email, phone number, or real-world identity. We do not know who you are.
We also keep your language preference so we can show you content in English or French.
If you delete and reinstall the app, a new identifier is created and the old one is abandoned.
9. What we don't do
- We use no analytics service, ad network, or tracking tool
- We don't sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone
- We don't show advertising
- We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number in the app (the website's optional waitlist and contact form are covered below)
- We don't access your contacts, photos, or location
- We don't track you across other apps or websites
10. Who we share information with
We don't sell or disclose your information. We rely on the following providers, each for one specific job:
| Service | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts content and anonymous usage data | Anonymous records, IP address |
| RevenueCat | Manages subscriptions | Purchase history, anonymous identifier, device info, IP |
| Apple / Google | Process payments | Your payment and account data, under their policies |
| Apple / Google | Speech recognition | Voice audio, when you dictate |
| Google Workspace | Runs our support mailbox | Anything you email us, including your address |
11. Legal bases for processing (EU/EEA and UK)
- Anonymous usage information — our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app. As it isn't linked to you, the impact is minimal.
- Subscriptions — performance of a contract with you.
- Prayer sharing and voice dictation — your consent, given at the moment you choose to use them.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information: access, correction, deletion, and withdrawal of consent.
- Information on your device. You control it directly — delete items in the app, or delete the app to erase everything. We have no access to it and can neither retrieve nor delete it for you.
- Likes on our server. Tied only to an anonymous identifier we cannot connect to you, they cannot be found on request. Deleting the app abandons the identifier.
- Anonymous usage information. As it isn't linked to any person, it cannot be retrieved or deleted individually.
- Subscription information. Held by RevenueCat and by Apple or Google. Write to us at support@ariseandshine.app and we'll help you make a request to them.
Questions or complaints: support@ariseandshine.app. People living in Québec may also contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec. People in the EU/EEA or the UK may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
13. Where your information is held
Information sent to us is hosted on servers operated by Supabase, located in the United States (AWS us-east-2, Ohio). RevenueCat processes data in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, your information is transferred there.
14. Retention
Anonymous usage information is kept for as long as it remains useful. Subscription records are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require. Shared prayers stay reachable through their code for 30 days, or until the sender deletes them, whichever comes first.
15. Children
Arise & Shine is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We ask for no age, name, or contact details, and personal content stays on the device.
16. Changes to this policy
If we change the way the app handles information, we will update this policy and change the date. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app.

18. This website
Everything above describes the app. The website, ariseandshine.app, is separate and collects almost nothing: no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies, and nothing stored in your browser.
There are two forms, and both are optional:
- The launch waitlist. If you submit it, we store the email address you typed and which language version of the site you used. We use it once, to tell you the app has launched, and for occasional encouragement until then. Ask us at support@ariseandshine.app and we will delete it.
- The contact form. If you write to us, we store your name, your email address and your message so we can reply.
Both are sent to our own server and saved with Supabase, the same provider listed above. No third-party form service is involved, and we do not record your IP address or browser with either form. Nothing else on the site collects anything about you.
